Why is clear ice better than cloudy or regular ice?

Unlike regular ice, clear ice contains no air bubbles making them melt 5x slower than the regular ice cube!

At room temperature, trapped air bubbles inside regular ice cubes cause it to melt fast. Consequently, after the ice melts the drink becomes diluted with the melted ice water and becomes tasteless especially if it contains a carbonated ingredient as a mixer.

E.g., if you are drinking a Gin & Tonic prepared with cloudy ice, once the tonic is poured into the glass and onto ice cubes the air bubbles react with the gases in the tonic and causes an eruption of extra fizz this leads to a fast dilution of your drink.

It looks better and tastes better!

Clear ice has no taste or smell making it the perfect ingredient in the drink-making process, unlike a regular ice cube that alters the taste of a drink from scents that maybe absorbed into the ice cube from within the freezers.

With the directional freezing method, clean frozen water is turned into clear ice without air bubbles and scents.

For whiskey & cognac connoisseurs:

As traditional whiskey and cognac drinkers we all know whiskey and cognac should be served neat to enjoy the complex flavours it embodies. We also know that it is a desecration to add anything on top of those two spirits except perhaps some water.

According to the Gentleman’s Journal in an article written by Jonathan Wells where he discusses with Master Distillers like Richard Paterson and Brand Ambassadors like Laura Mustard on the topic of whether ice can be served with whiskey, the response is whiskey may be served with at most one or two ice cubes otherwise the flavour is dulled by dilution of the cubes. It is also recommended in hot climates and regions such as Africa to add ice cubes but to be very mindful where the ice is sourced as impure water can ameliorate the flavours and smell of the whiskey.
